ITR-3 is an income tax return form in India designed for individuals and Hindu Undivided Families (HUFs) who earn income from profits and gains of business or profession, excluding proprietary businesses. This form is mainly applicable to partners in firms and includes various sources of income such as salary, house property, capital gains (both short-term and long-term), and other sources like interest earnings. It requires taxpayers to disclose comprehensive financial details, including gross income, deductions, tax calculations, and, where applicable, foreign assets and income. Due to its focus on business and professional income, ITR-3 is more complex than simpler forms like ITR-1 and ITR-2, often necessitating thorough documentation and, in some cases, an audit based on turnover criteria.
Individuals or HUFs meeting the following criteria are eligible to file ITR-3:
The taxpayer either operates a business or serves as a company director.
Both residents and non-residents of India can file this form.
Individuals earning income through a pension can use ITR-3.
If the taxpayer earns rental income from house property, they can file under this form.
Those holding unlisted equity shares are required to file ITR-3.
If income falls under this category, including revenue components such as interest and salary, the ITR-3 form applies.
